SAFER grows – four new partners join the platform

Mar, 24 2026

SAFER continues to grow. At the spring General Assembly meeting, four new partners were welcomed to the platform: City of Helsingborg, MHF (Motorförarnas Helnykterhetsförbund), the Swedish Motorcyclists Association (SMC), and motoTec Labs.

Together they broaden SAFER’s expertise in road safety, from municipal urban planning and impaired driving prevention to motorcycle safety and advanced simulation technologies.

"We are very pleased to welcome these four new partners to SAFER. They bring new perspectives, new competencies and, importantly, new research questions. This is exactly how the platform should evolve; by broadening collaboration and bringing together more actors committed to contributing to Vision Zero," says Magnus Granström, Director of SAFER.

City of Helsingborg

The City of Helsingborg is a municipality with a strong focus on sustainable urban development and safe urban mobility.

Through SAFER, Helsingborg contributes practical experience from urban traffic environments, infrastructure planning and implementation of safety measures in cities. The city can also provide real-world test environments and urban traffic data.

Research questions they want to explore further:

  • Geofencing for vehicles in urban areas
  • Geofencing related to speeding
  • E-scooter crashes
  • Municipal collaboration on micromobility
  • Safe implementation of automated vehicles in cities
  • Testbeds for autonomous vehicles
  • New solutions when traditional road safety measures are already implemented
  • Safety of vulnerable road users

MHF – Motorförarnas Helnykterhetsförbund

MHF is a non-profit organisation working to prevent alcohol and drug impairment in road traffic.

The organisation contributes extensive expertise on impaired driving, safety technologies and communication strategies to influence behaviour.

Areas where they want to develop knowledge:

  • Alcohol and drugs in traffic
  • Technologies supporting sober driving
  • Standardisation and reliability of new safety technologies
  • Interaction between technology, behaviour and regulation
  • Communication and behavioural change
  • Implementation of safety technologies in vehicles
  • Policy development for sober driving
  • Dissemination of road safety knowledge to the public

SMC – Swedish Motorcyclists Association

SMC is a national membership organisation representing motorcyclists in Sweden, working actively with rider training, policy development and motorcycle safety.

SMC contributes unique insights into rider behaviour, training and real-world riding environments, as well as a strong connection to the motorcycling community.

Research topics they want to contribute to:

  • Rider behaviour in traffic
  • Interaction between motorcycles and other road users
  • Infrastructure impacts on motorcycle safety
  • Road design and maintenance risks for riders
  • Motorcycle safety culture
  • Effects of rider training
  • Motorcyclists in Vision Zero work
  • Integration of motorcycles in future transport systems

motoTec Labs

motoTec Labs is a Swedish innovation company that has developed an advanced motorcycle simulator for research on rider behaviour and vehicle dynamics.

Their expertise lies in motorcycle dynamics, simulation technologies and human factors in riding behaviour, enabling advanced experimental studies in controlled environments.

Research areas they aim to explore:

  • Rider behaviour and decision-making
  • Human factors in motorcycling
  • Interaction between motorcycles and automated vehicles
  • Simulation-based road safety research
  • Two-wheeled vehicle dynamics
  • VR-based traffic scenario studies
  • Risk analysis in complex traffic situations
  • Methods combining simulator studies and real-world data

With these new partners, SAFER further strengthens its role as a neutral collaboration platform for research and innovation in road safety.
