SAFER Breakfast seminar: Tactical Safety in Autonomous Driving - The Implementation of Precautious and Cooperative Driving
Welcome to join a SAFER breakfast seminar "Tactical Safety in Autonomous Driving - The Implementation of Precautious and Cooperative Driving" and learn from Dr. Hans-Peter Schöner, CEO of Insight from Outside. The seminar is hosted by our Competence network leader for Safety assurance, Fredrik Sandblom, Zenseact.
AGENDA
08:30 Light breakfast with sandwich (typical Swedish fralla!), juice and coffee + networking
08:45 Dr. Hans-Peters Schöner's talk
09:45 Q&A, discussion
10:15 End of seminar (with the opportunity to continue an informal dialogue)
Register below before August 25. The Teams-link will be sent to you in advance of the meeting.
Welcome!
ABSTRACT
In automotive engineering, the topics of "passive safety" to reduce the severity of accidents and "active safety" to better manage acute dangerous situations have been established for many years. With the introduction of automated vehicles, the vehicle control system has the opportunity to influence the emergence of dangerous situations at an early stage. This risk reduction in the driving task, referred to as "tactical safety", is presented in this lecture and its safety contribution and design principles are considered.
To begin, the presentation will elucidate the technical meaning of “taking responsibility for driving” by an automated vehicle. The essential factors for risks in the driving task are highlighted, and important examples are given in which situations "tactical safety" is of considerable importance. The safety goal of the driving task is not acute accident avoidance, but already the avoidance of traffic-related hazards - only then do we want to entrust ourselves to the driving responsibility of an autonomous vehicle!
The talk will provide answers to the following questions:
- What does “cautious and cooperative driving” actually mean?
- How do you deal with the much-discussed dilemma situations?
- What is the significance of a measure of "risk", how can it be realised?
- What specific role does communication have for the safety of autonomous vehicles?
