Lecture Title: Protecting two-wheeler riders in car crashes
Dr Rikard Fredriksson received his Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chalmers University in 1995. He has since then been working as a researcher at Autoliv Research, first in the area of whiplash protection and since 1999 with pedestrian protection. He performed the research ground work for both the pedestrian active hood and the pedestrian airbag. First prototypes were shown in 2001, and active hood was launched in production in 2005 (Jaguar) and the pedestrian airbag in 2012 (Volvo). He received his PhD from Karolinska Institutet in 2011 in the area of pedestrian protection. Since his PhD he has continued his work with vulnerable road user research, but now focusing on understanding bicyclist and powered two-wheeler accidents and their protection, and since 2015 he has also lead the global Accident research team within Autoliv. He is also leading the reference group for Traffic Safety Analysis at SAFER.
”To protect two-wheeler riders in the best way in car crashes, both preventive and protective measures are necessary.”
