We are happy to welcome Lina Hertzberg; Linköping University, Department of Computer and Information Science, Linköping Sweden and Helena Selander; VTI, Swedish National Transport Research Institute, Gothenburg, Sweden. Obtaining a driver’s license is an important milestone that supports employment opportunities, independence, and social participation. However, learning to drive is a complex cognitive process that may present additional challenges for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). This presentation provides an overview of current research on driving and driver licensing among individuals with NDDs. It highlights common challenges encountered during driver training, theoretical and practical testing, and license attainment, as well as factors that may support successful learning outcomes. The presentation also discusses important gaps in the existing literature, including the limited use of large-scale data and the underrepresentation of co-occurring NDDs.
