CONNECTED VEHICLE DATA
Full title: Pilot project on the traffic safety benefits of connected vehicle data
Connected vehicle data is already used to some extent in Swedish traffic operations, but its potential for road safety has not yet been explored systematically. This pilot project will investigate whether telemetry and movement data from connected vehicles can provide credible, consistent and decision-relevant safety insights in Sweden. The project will compare connected vehicle data with existing Swedish Transport Administration data sources and test selected use cases, such as speed monitoring, hard-braking events, evaluation of safety measures and network-based risk screening. The aim is to establish whether these data can support more continuous, efficient and proactive road safety monitoring and provide a basis for future scale-up and integration into analytical workflows.
Traffic safety benefit: The project explores whether connected vehicle data can provide continuous, reliable safety indicators with broad network coverage. Better and faster safety data can strengthen monitoring, evaluation and targeting of road safety measures.
