Partnership with Chalmers Industriteknik will support SAFER’s vision to create a sustainable transport system

Mar, 11 2022

“We welcome Chalmers Industriteknik to SAFER and are pleased that we are growing with valuable research expertise that will contribute to our vision to create a safe and sustainable transport system for all”, says Magnus Granström, SAFER's director.

Chalmers Industriteknik is a research institute that offers academic excellence in several areas strongly connected to, or enabling, SAFER’s research areas; e.g. innovation, protection systems, machine learning, AI-methodologies and application areas, digitalization, data science, research infrastructures, materials science as well as expertise in leading complex collaboration environments and large EU projects.

Golaleh Ebrahimpur, CEO at Chalmers Industriteknik, comments the partnership:

“We foresee that we will contribute with traffic safety expertise as well as expertise in other areas that can be useful in and enable research and future products. We aim to lead joint research projects and contribute to developing strong project applications. We also see that much of the knowledge we possess in our academic excellence areas can be applied to road safety, and we want to explore this more in depth with the aim of further engage in global sustainability matters.

Broad range of traffic safety knowledge
Chalmers Industriteknik undertakes several different types of research tasks and investigations connected to road safety, including for example crash safety, materials science and different types of gender equality issues in traffic. Chalmers Industriteknik has been involved in the development of a female crash test dummy and addressed female whiplash injury protection in several projects with SAFER partners.

Magnus tells more about the benefits of the research collaboration:

“We see great value in Chalmers Industriteknik being a formal partner in SAFER. Their expertise in material science and human body protection are important to us and is already part of several SAFER projects. Also, several of their other academic excellence areas are important enablers for our research, we think primarily of AI, machine learning, digitalization and circular economy. We also see that Chalmers Industriteknik further can strengthen our international applications”.

Another important area for collaboration will also be the global sustainable development goals. Connect traffic safety to other research disciplines to gain momentum will be a key contributor to tackle our global sustainability challenges and create a truly sustainable transport system.
