Event

Dialogue session: Legislation and policy for safe remote operation of road vehicles

Date
26 January 2026 13:00-16:00
Place
Lindholmen Navet, Room Hamnen at AstaZero (Lindholmspiren 3A floor 2 or Teams)

Remote operation and remote management of road vehicles are moving rapidly from pilots to real-world deployment, while legal and regulatory frameworks are still evolving. The session brings together regulators, researchers and industry to discuss the current status of legislation and policy for remote operations, including emerging concepts such as remote management, the remote agent, and associated responsibilities and compliance requirements.

We will provide an update on ongoing regulatory development, including draft texts currently under review, discuss what organisations need to prepare for in the near term, and exchange perspectives on upcoming legislation across jurisdictions. The program combines short expert presentations with a moderated panel dialogue focused on practical implications, open questions, and what “good compliance” looks like as remote operations on public roads scale up.

This event is an initiative from the SAFER Remote Operations working group and is open to everyone in the SAFER network. It is primarily designed as an in-person dialogue meeting, with the option to join online.

Welcome!

Registration: SAFER partners are welcome to sign up here prior to Jan 22!
