Event

Protecting Occupants: Advances in Impact Biomechanics and Crash Safety

Date
8 October 2026 11:30-13:00
Place
SAFER, Lindholmen Innovation District, Kuggen, Lindholmsplatsen 1 or online

Understanding how injuries occur in vehicle crashes is fundamental to developing effective protection systems. In this seminar, Professor Mats Svensson from Chalmers University of Technology will share insights from his research in impact biomechanics, crash injury prevention, and the development of crash test methods.

Mats has extensive expertise in injury biomechanics, crash dummy development, and experimental methods used to understand and evaluate injury mechanisms in traffic crashes. Particular attention will be given to whiplash injuries, which remain one of the most common and costly injury types in road traffic despite significant advances in vehicle safety.

The seminar will provide perspectives on how biomechanical research has contributed to safer vehicles and improved crash test procedures, as well as the challenges that remain in preventing injuries and enhancing occupant protection in future transport systems.

Practical Information

SAFER Thursday lunch seminars are held both at the SAFER office, Lindholmen Innovation District, building Kuggen, Lindholmsplatsen 1 or online (Teams).
