SAFER Lunch seminar: Joint control and communication for connected autonomous vehicles, with performance guarantees.

Date
20 September 2018 11:30-12:30
Place
SAFER, Lunchroom, Lindholmspiren 3A, Gothenburg

Welcome to a lunch seminar with the theme "Joint control and communication for connected autonomous vehicles, with performance guarantees".
Speaker: Paolo Falcone, Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Chalmers

The next challenge, beyond high-level autonomous driving, is the cooperation of autonomous vehicles, which is expected to fully enable the potential of autonomous driving technologies and impact the society. Nevertheless, the safety and performance issues arising from the tight coupling between information losses and delays and the control system performance must be accounted for at the design stage. Starting from a multi-vehicle coordination problem at traffic junctions, which has been experimentally demonstrated, we will motivate a joint communication schedule and control design paradigm. We will show a few results from numerical examples and new research directions.

Bio. speaker: Paolo Falcone received his M.Sc. (“Laurea" degree) in 2003 from the University of Naples “Federico II” and his Ph.D. degree in Information Technology in 2007 from the University of Sannio, in Benevento, Italy. He is Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. His research focuses on constrained optimal control applied to autonomous and semi-autonomous mobile systems, cooperative driving and intelligent vehicles. He is involved in a several projects, in cooperation with the Swedish automotive industry, focusing on autonomous driving, cooperative driving and vehicle dynamics control.
