SAFER seminar: ITS for Vulnerable Road Users' Safety
Please contact the visitors centre in the ground floor and they will let you in!
SAFER invites you to a seminar on ITS for Vulnerable Road Users’ Safety.
The seminar discusses the possibility of developing ITS applications to enhance the communication between motorised drivers and Vulnerable Road Users (VRU), thus using ITS to increase VRUs’ safety. Such an application might be the detection of pedestrians by Wi-Fi in-vehicle technology. As most people in the developed countries will soon have a smart phone (which usually is equipped with a GPS receiver and a Wi-Fi transceiver) there is a possibility to do coarse positioning and to communicate with other WiFi-equipped actors. In addition, the phenomena behaviour adaptation is discussed in connection to advanced assistance systems in transport and possible consequences with regard to VRU safety.
Åse Svensson is Associate Professor in Transport science at the Unit of Transport & Roads, Lund University. Her PhD thesis focused on indirect safety indicators and she has for many years worked with safe and efficient movement for vulnerable road users.
The Unit of Transport & Roads has a long experience of research on safety and accessibility for vulnerable road users in the urban context, evaluating the effects of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, as well as developing methods for safety assessment, e.g. the Swedish Traffic Conflicts Technique or SCRIBE for Detecting Safety Critical Braking Events.
SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden has established a local office in Ideon Science Park in Lund. To build collaborations, SP is planning for projects together with Lund University. SP has competence in positioning, app development for smart phones, and active safety systems.
The SAFER seminars are open for all and free of charge!
