Welcome to a SAFER seminar with Shannon Roberts: Human Factors in Driving (Automation Systems)

Shannon Roberts, University of Massachusetts Amherst is visiting SAFER in August and our partners are most welcome to meet her and take part in the seminar
Human Factors in Driving (Automation Systems). Prof. Marco Dozza is hosting the seminar.

Abstract
Increasing autonomy in vehicles is associated with many improvements in terms of functionality and convenience. Although driving automation systems have made significant progress over the past few years, human involvement is still vital. In this talk, I will describe a series of experiments that I have undertaken to study the interaction between drivers and driving automation systems. One set of experiments is focused on the design and evaluation of feedback systems (i.e., training and real-time warning systems) to improve driver response in unexpected driving situations. Another experiment examines how drivers respond to vehicle cyberattacks, which are more likely to occur in driving automation systems, and how we can improve drivers’ awareness of vehicle cyberattacks. The last experiment examines drivers’ perception, reaction, and understanding after prolonged exposure to a driving automation system.

Welcome!
