SAFER seminar: Vulnerable Road Users' Safety in the City
Please contact the visitors centre in the ground floor and they will let you in!
SAFER invites you to a seminar on appropriate speed for liveability in the city.
There is solid research based evidence on the relationship between speed and injury risk. More than four thousand injured pedestrians and bicyclists, hit by a motor vehicle, are registered yearly in Sweden. Besides, the speed of motorised traffic has an important role for interaction between road users, sustainability and liveability in the city.
There is a need for further research including field trials to investigate how to achieve an appropriate speed for all in the city.
András Várhelyi is Professor in Transportation at the Unit of Transport & Roads, Lund University. His PhD thesis focused on “Dynamic speed adaptation”. During the last 15 years, he has made studies on vulnerable road users’ safety, as well as on the safety effects of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
He is a founding member of the National ITS postgraduate school and chairman of the Nordic Traffic Safety Academy.
The Unit of Transport & Roads has long been doing research on safety and accessibility for vulnerable road users in the urban context, evaluating the effects of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, as well as developing methods for safety assessment, e.g. the Swedish Traffic Conflicts Technique or SCRIBE for Detecting Safety Critical Braking Events.
Lund University is a SAFER partner as of April 1st 2012. Join us on October 8th to find out more about their research!
The SAFER seminars are open for all and free of charge!
