Road Safety Index – what we learnt from the pilot study

The Federation International Automobile- (FIA) Road Safety Index aims to show an organisation’s impact on traffic safety from a value chain perspective, i.e. also called traffic safety footprint. It is further a way of rating and express how the organisation can influence/improve traffic safety and what can be expected from organisations regarding sustainability reporting in the future. The first prototype has now been tested by several organisations, e.g. IKEA, Trafikverket and Autoliv, during the spring 2022. The suggested Road Safety Index and its indicators are all based on the Stockholm declaration for traffic safety, adopted at the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference in 2020, and on the United Nations General Assembly resolution 74/299. 

During the SAFER lunch seminar we will learn about the main results from the first pilot study to put the suggested Road Safety Index into practice from Prof. Claes Tingvall, Chalmers/Afry and researchers from Autoliv that have actively participated in the pilot. What did we learn and which are the main research questions for us to address to further develop the idea of traffic safety reporting from the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in 2020? Tania Dukic Willstrand, AB Volvo, leader of SAFER’s Think Tank for Traffic Safety Footprint will be our discussion leader.

This time, Claes and the representatives from Autoliv will participate online and Tania will join physically at SAFER, also for the networking part.
