Place
SAFER office, Lindholmen Science Park, Lindholmspiren 3A.

Welcome to a SAFER Thursday networking lunch and seminar! This week we will hear presentations on two projects created within the SAFER platform and funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation framework program; FAME & SUNRISE!

FAME - Framework for coordination of Automated Mobility in Europe
Speaker: Erik Svanberg, Data manager SAFER NDD platform

Framework for coordination of Automated Mobility in Europe (FAME) is a three year project and is a continuation of the ARCADE support action. It is a research and innovation action that have two main objectives: 1) maintain and further develop the Connected and Automated knowledgebase (https://connectedautomateddriving.eu/ ), and 2) develop a European framework for testing on public roads.

The framework consist of inventories, checklists, templates, software and IT infrastructures, covering five pillars including harmonized conditions for CCAM test approvals, a Common Evaluation Methodology and the implementation of a test data space (TDS) for sharing CCAM related test data. Chalmers/SAFER is responsible and have work package lead for the TDS. The project will benefit from collaborating with other actions (SHOW, Hi-Drive, V4Safety, SUNRISE) addressing related topics.
This presentation will detail the components of the European Framework for testing on public road, and how you can engage and contribute to the project.

SUNRISE - Safety assUraNce fRamework for connected, automated mobIlity SystEms
Speaker: John-Fredrik Grönvall, Area Manager: Field Operational Tests/Naturalistic Driving Studies, SAFER

Safety assurance of Cooperative, connected, and automated mobility (CCAM) technologies is a crucial factor for their successful adoption in society, yet it remains to be a significant challenge. CCAM systems must prove to be reliable in every possible driving scenario, that is building a strong safety argumentation. It is already acknowledged that for higher levels of automation the validation of these systems by real test-driving would be infeasible by conventional methods. Thus, a carefully designed mixture of physical and virtual testing has emerged as a promising approach with the virtual part bearing more significant weight in this mixture (quality of coverage versus quantity of miles) for cost efficiency reasons.

Evolving from the achievements obtained in HEADSTART and taking other initiatives as a baseline, it becomes necessary to move to the next level in the concrete specification and demonstration of a commonly accepted Safety Assurance Framework (SAF) for the safety validation of CCAM systems, including a broad portfolio of use cases and comprehensive test and validation tools. Following a common approach will be crucial for present and future activities regarding the testing and validation of CCAM systems, allowing to obtain standardized results, to improve analysis and comparability, hence maximizing the societal impact of the introduction of CCAM systems. SUNRISE aims to develop and provide a scalable, future-proof Safety Assurance Framework that fulfils the needs of different stakeholders. SUNRISE will also demonstrate the framework in a representative set of use cases to prove the robustness, repeatability and versatility of the methodology through a rich simulation kits portfolio. This will be done in co-operation with existing testing and validation sites in Europe (and worldwide), taking into account other industries and domains for harmonization and standardization purposes.

All SAFER Thursday lunch seminars are held at the SAFER office and online, via Microsoft Teams. For those of you who wish to attend physically, SAFER invites you to lunch in conjunction with the seminars. Lunch is served at the SAFER office, Lindholmen Science Park, beginning 11.45 and requires a registration. Invitations have been sent out to the SAFER partners, if you also would like to join, please come back to us (redlich@chalmers.se)!
