SAFER Thursday lunch seminar hosted by Anna Sjörs Dahlman: Alcohol & Driving
Welcome to a SAFER Thursday networking lunch and seminar! This session is hosted by Anna Sjörs Dahlman, SAFER’s Research Area Director for Road User Behaviour. The topic this week is alcohol & driving and Anna has invited Christer Ahlström from VTI to present preliminary results from the SAFER associated project Fit2Drive.
The Influence of Alcohol on visual information sampling and driver attention
Speaker: Christer Ahlström, VTI
Alcohol intoxication causes up to 35% of all fatal road crashes. This is not surprising given how alcohol leads to deteriorated visuo-motor control, slower reaction times, and worsened response inhibition. In the FFI funded project Fit2Drive, VTI together with Smart Eye have carried out a combined test track and driving simulator experiment aiming to find objective and unobtrusive indicators of alcohol intoxication. Here we will present preliminary results on how alcohol affect visual information sampling and driver attention, primarily from the simulator study.
