Welcome to the final SAFER Thursday lunch seminar before summer! This week our host is Rikard Fredriksson from the Swedish Transport Administration. Rikard will provide us with a shorter version of the annual Swedish Result Conference (that takes place May 9th), and an overview of the development of road safety in Sweden both regarding safety performance indicators and on the outcome of road fatalities.
Road safety trends in Sweden 2022 – overview of the Swedish road safety performance indicators
Speaker: Rikard Fredriksson, Swedish Transport Administration
Sweden is known for Vision Zero. A number of interim targets have been set to manage the road safety work towards Vision Zero. The new interim target is to halve the number of fatalities by 2030. This means a maximum of 133 road fatalities in Sweden by 2030. The interim target will also mean that the number of seriously injured in road traffic will be reduced by 25%.
Several safety performance indicators (SPI) have also been set, for instance safer roads, safer cars, use of seat belts, bicycle helmets etc. A revised set of SPIs has been developed for the period 2021-2030.
This presentation will give an overview of the development of road safety in Sweden both regarding safety performance indicators and on the outcome of road fatalities.
