The Functional Safety Standard ISO 26262 – Today, for SAFER and Tomorrow

Speaker: Dr Per Johannessen, Functional Safety Expert, Combitech

The functional safety standard for the automotive industry, ISO 26262, has been around since early 2000 and has changed the automotive development significantly. During the recent years, it has been made applicable to trucks and buses, gained importance for the development of vehicle automation and several other standards have been developed based out of ISO 26262. In this talk, we will see what ISO 26262 is, how it affects the automotive industry and its future role. We will also see how it relates to SAFER and its research. Most research areas and competence areas in SAFER has a fairly strong connection to ISO 26262 and there are many win-win possibilities here.

Assessing safety of automated vehicles – a general overview.

Speaker: Dr. Azra Habibovic, Senior researcher at RISE and Research area director at SAFER for Road user behaviour

Few topics are discussed as often as the safety of automated vehicles. A recurring question is "How do you know that an automated vehicle is safe enough, and how safe is safe enough?". This presentation will give an overview of how different stakeholders are addressing this question and what is required to assure safety.
