The SEBRA project (SEnsor for Bicyclist impRoved Awareness)
Speaker: Jonas Andersson, Senior Researcher, RISE
A collaboration between RISE, Aptiv and Liri financed by FFI, the SEBRA project has explored the role of active safety systems on future e-bikes. By looking at critical traffic situations for bikes, use-cases were developed where such a system could have a positive impact on safety. In the project, a radar system for e-bikes was developed based on an automotive grade radar system. A haptic and visual HMI was designed to communicate information from the radar sensors both to the bicyclist and to the surrounding traffic. The SEBRA system was mounted on an e-bike and evaluated both on test track and in traffic. In the seminar we present the findings from the project and an outlook on active safety systems for bicyclists.
