Congratulations Volvo Cars - research pays off

Sep, 17 2015

On September 2nd, the Volvo XC90 was awarded five stars and achieved top ratings in its 2015 Euro NCAP tests. An important factor to reach this outstanding result is Volvo Cars' dedication to research. The fruitful research collaboration within SAFER has been one contributing factor.

The XC90 with standard City Safety technology stood out as the first car from any manufacturer to score full points in Euro NCAP Autonomous Emergency Braking Car to Car rear-end tests (AEB City & AEB Interurban).

- This is further proof that with Volvo XC90 we have developed one of the safest cars in the world. In fact we scored one hundred per cent in the Safety Assist category. From an industry perspective Volvo Cars remains the leader in car safety innovation and miles ahead of the competition with our standard safety offer, says Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President, Research & Development at Volvo Car Group.

- One important success factor is our excellent research collaborations where SAFER is an important asset. We value the contribution from this shared platform of broad safety competence, says Cecilia Larsson, director at Volvo Cars Safety Centre and member of the SAFER board.

Director of SAFER Anna Nilsson-Ehle congratulates Volvo Cars to this success.

- All partners in SAFER should benefit from the collaborative research we conduct. We are very happy and proud to see that the excellent research collaboration between industry, academia and society pays off in our partners products.
