Testing safety of intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) in open and mixed road environment (ICV-Safe)

Intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) are expected to bring immense societal benefits. For a safe introduction of such vehicles, a thorough safety assessment is required. Taking advantage of advanced large-scale open test sites in Shanghai, and by joining effort with a Chinese consortium, this project focuses on identifying high-risk scenarios and develop risk assessment and mitigation methods for ICVs in mixed traffic. This will be done through the analysis of the large amount ICV test data collected in Shanghai, and in combination with simulation and open road testing. The ultimate goal is to develop safety assessment methods that take account of risk factors from both ICVs and road environment, and contribute to accelerated deployment of ICV. With the test site as a partner and rapid infrastructure introduction, the project will also improve the understanding of infrastructure support for ICV. The project will be led by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, with Chalmers University of Technology, Alkit Communications AB, WSP AB, and FellowBot AB. Chinese partners: Tongji University, Changan University, Shanghai Songhong, Intelligent Automotive, Highway research institute Ministry of Transportation, TuSimple, Guangzhou O.
