Wireless Real-Time Communication in Traffic Safety Applications

The purpose of this document is to discuss the specific communication requirements for traffic safety applications. It compares benefits and drawbacks of using existing communication standards for these particular kinds of applications. Finally, it proposes some amendments to wireless standards and open research questions that could further enhance the system performance to better suit traffic safety systems. No quantitative values on the requirements of traffic safety applications are given, but rather some possible solutions should the values be in a certain range.
