111 actions for increased road safety

Apr, 25 2019

A road map with 111 actions to improve road safety has been developed by GNS Väg, in which SAFER has been an active part.

In the light of road safety developments in recent years, it is of great importance that the relevant authorities and actors show increased commitment and responsibility for safe road traffic. In order to succeed in achieving the goals set, effective measures must be taken, both individually and in collaboration. The "Roadmap for Safe Road Traffic 2019-2022" describes what 14 different authorities and actors, including SAFER, intend to do in the next four years to contribute to safe road traffic. A total of 111 different measures are presented for the period 2019–2022 within e.g. areas of reduce speeding, sober traffic and safe cycling. If the measures described in the action plan are implemented in their entirety, it is estimated that this could contribute to approximately 40-50 fewer fatalities on an annual basis after 2022. The measures are also expected to contribute to the order of 500 fewer seriously injured on an annual basis after 2022.

The road map has been developed by GNS (Gruppen för Nollvisionens Samverkan), in which SAFER is an active contributor. In the work with developing prerequisite measures SAFER will prioritise research projects related to safe cycling, e.g. how electric bicycles affect safety, "intelligent" bikes with sensors and bicycles throughout the complete traffic system.
