BOOSTING CAV SAFETY IN NEW PROJECT: ADDRESSING UNCERTAINTIES IN MIXED TRAFFIC

Jul, 16 2024

SAFER has introduced a new research project titled "Uncertainty-aware and safety-enhanced management of CAVs for safer mixed traffic" in their portfolio. The project aims to improve the safety of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) within mixed traffic environments, where CAVs and human-driven vehicles (HDVs) coexist. This requires a comprehensive approach to address the various uncertainties inherent in real traffic scenarios and driving environments.

The project has two main objectives:

1. Uncertainty perception and quantification: Identify and quantify risks in mixed traffic scenarios.

2. Safety-enhanced and uncertainty-aware operational control: Improve the operational control of CAVs in mixed traffic environments by taking into account uncertainties.

This project builds on previous research, particularly the ICV-safety project funded by VINNOVA, and continues the efforts to enhance the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles in complex traffic situations.
