Jun, 11 2026

On 10 June, Jian Wu successfully defended his PhD thesis Generation and Validation of Representative Pre-Crash Scenarios: Toward Accurate and Credible Safety Impact Assessments of Driving Automation Systems at Chalmers University of Technology.

In his research, Jian developed methods for generating and validating representative synthetic pre-crash scenarios, enabling more accurate and credible assessments of the safety benefits of driving automation systems. His work contributes important knowledge for the future evaluation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems  and Automated Driving Systems.

The opponent was Prof. Feng Guo, Virginia Tech. The grading committee consisted of Prof. Simone Göttlich, University of Mannheim, Prof. Hans van Lint, TU Delft, Prof. Thomas Hellmer, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, and Associate Prof. Marco L. Della Vedova, Chalmers/ME, as backup.

Jian’s main supervisor was Prof. Jonas Bärgman, Chalmers. Co-supervisors were Prof. Carol Flannagan, University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, and Dr Ulrich Sander, Volvo Cars. Prof. Marco Dozza, Chalmers, served as examiner and defence chair.

Congratulations, Jian, on this important achievement and best wishes for the future!
