Fredrik Sandblom - new Research area director at SAFER

Welcome Fredrik Sandblom - SAFER's new Research Area Director for Systems for Accident prevention and Automated driving.

As of January 1 st, 2019, Fredrik will take up his new position as Research Area Director at SAFER. His home organisation is Volvo Group, where he is working as a Senior Technology specialist and Technical Advisor at the department for Automation and Active safety. Fredrik has a PhD, “Filtering and modelling for active safety systems” at the Signal Processing group at S2, Chalmers (2011). Other examples of Fredrik's research projects:

  • 2005-2010, IVSS – SEFS: Industrial PhD student.
  • 2011-2014, FFI – Filtering Techniques for sensor fusion: Project manager and researcher.
  • 2012-2014, FFI – Non Hit Car And Truck (NHCT): Researcher, team leader for sensor data fusion team.
  • 2018-, FFI – High integrity system for ensuring safety of automated driving features: Researcher, industrial PhD Student supervisor.

Fredrik is familiar with the SAFER community; e.g. the NHCT project was conducted partly in the SAFER premises. Also, Fredrik has been part of several SAFER projects and a broad network in the SAFER community is already established.

Working as a Research Area Director (RAD) in the SAFER environment is a 20% role, leading the project portfolio within one of the research areas. The RAD has the task to lead and develop the Reference group with members from industry, university, institutes etc, who are performing and planning research in the research area. Main tasks are to chair, lead and develop the Reference group, pro-active lead and develop the project portfolio, considers the need for multi- disciplinary research based on the research area platform. Also, the RAD leads the road map development and stimulate cooperation among the SAFER partners active in the research areas through multi-disciplinary project. The RADs are members of the Management team at SAFER.
