New partner project to improve traffic safety while driving for work

Mar, 06 2026

A significant share of road crashes happen while people are driving for work. For many employees, driving is part of the job even though they are not professional drivers. Limited training, time pressure, stress, fatigue, and demanding schedules can increase crash risk and contribute to musculoskeletal issues. Discomfort, both physical and psychological, may also affect attention and the correct use of vehicle safety systems.

Against this background, we welcome the new partner project Drive Safe at Work – Strategies to Improve Employee Driving Behavior. The project addresses an often overlooked road safety challenge: work-related driving in sectors such as healthcare and social services, service and construction trades, and technology companies where employees frequently drive to customers.

Using an action-based research approach and co-creation methodology, the project will develop and test practical strategies and solutions that strengthen knowledge and promote safer driving behaviour. The aim is to produce both scientific insights and practical tools that help organisations integrate traffic safety into occupational health and safety practices, ultimately reducing the risk of work-related driving injuries.
