New partner project: Strengthening road safety through knowledge and communication
How can better knowledge and communication help people make safer choices in traffic? This is the focus of a new SAFER partner project led by NTF Väst, exploring how communication can contribute to safer road user behaviour while supporting the transition towards more active and sustainable mobility.
People's behaviour and everyday choices play an important role in road safety. Whether we walk, cycle or use other modes of transport, having the right knowledge and understanding of risks can help us make safer decisions. But making knowledge available is only part of the challenge – communicating it in ways that actually reach people and influence behaviour is equally important.
The project, Communication for Safe and Active Mobility, aims to strengthen national road safety efforts through information and knowledge-sharing activities, with a particular focus on the role of individuals in creating a safer traffic environment. The project will build on knowledge from SAFER's research community, including insights e.g. from the Road User Behaviour working group. It will also contribute to a communication platform for civil society, helping to connect research-based knowledge with practical road safety efforts.
At SAFER, we very much look forward to following and supporting this initiative. Understanding road user behaviour and how knowledge can be translated into safer everyday choices; this is an important part of our collaborative work. We are excited to learn from the project and explore how its experiences and insights can benefit the wider SAFER community!
The project is led by NTF Väst, funded by Skyltfonden, and runs from June 2026 to February 2027.
