New Project: Strengthening Civil Society’s Role in Traffic Safety
A new project funded by Skyltfonden aims to strategically involve civil society organisations to amplify the voice of road users and strengthen their role in traffic safety. The initiative will be carried out in partnership with DuWill, NTF Väst and Chalmers University from January to July 2025.
Civil society actors are key to building communities where citizens and businesses actively contribute to positive societal change. This is particularly critical during major societal transitions, such as the shift toward sustainable mobility. Traffic safety is a cornerstone of this transition, enabling safer walking, cycling, shared mobility, and public transport.
The project will conduct a gap analysis and develop strategic recommendations on how civil society organisations, particularly NTF (National Society for Road Safety), can take a larger role in traffic safety efforts. The goal is to explore how these actors can foster behavioral change among road users and support Sweden's position as a global leader in traffic safety.
Key activities include interviews with experts and stakeholders across Sweden and the Nordic region, workshops to align goals and strategies, and knowledge dissemination through reports and presentations. A workshop at the Nordic Traffic Safety Council Conference in May 2025 will offer an international platform for discussing findings and fostering collaborations.
By leveraging the expertise of civil society organisations, this project seeks to create a more inclusive and sustainable approach to traffic safety, ensuring Sweden remains an inspiring leader in the field.
