New research center for cycling boosts SAFER's research

Jan, 19 2018

One of SAFER's main partners, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), will open a national research and knowledge center for cycling. The investment is positive for SAFER's research activities, where one of the focus areas is unprotected road users.

The number of cyclists, especially in the cities, increases and so also the number of injuries. The development is worrying and more research is needed in this area. SAFER's researchers focuses on providing solutions to the problem and welcomes the government's initiative. Tania Willstrand, director for SAFER's research portfolio in the Road User behavior area, comments on the news:
"It's gratifying news for us. We hope the center will contribute to powerful efforts to increase bicycle safety”.
The government has commissioned VTI to lead the center, which will focus on both research and information activities, in the years 2018-2021. The government wants to stimulate increased and safe cycling in order to contribute to a sustainable society with high quality of life, throughout the whole country. The center will be opened in March 2018.
