News about PROSPECT - Proactive Safety for Pedestrians and Cyclists

Oct, 20 2017

PROSPECT is an EU project in the framework programme Horizon 2020, aimed at improving the protection of vulnerable road users (VRUs) with an emphasis on the two groups with the largest shares of fatalities: cyclists and pedestrians. The first Newsletter is now published.

The project will consider all relevant VRU traffic scenarios, with a special focus on urban environments, where the large majority of VRU accidents occur. PROSPECT focuses on active safety solutions, i.e. where vehicle-based sensing (i.e. video, radar) is used to survey the vehicle surroundings and where the vehicle acts actively in case of a pending critical traffic situation with a VRU (i.e. driver warning, vehicle braking/steering). PROSPECT aims to significantly improve the effectiveness of active VRU safety systems compared to those currently on the market. The project will cover the entire spectrum of in-depth accident analysis, naturalistic observations, sensor processing, modelling and situation analysis, human-machine interface (HMI), driver warning and vehicle control, testing equipment, functional tests, user acceptance, and benefit/effectiveness estimation.
