We are happy to announce that the preliminary program for the 8th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention (DDI2022) now is published! October 19-20 will be two days filled with novel research presentations and knowledge sharing on this highly relevant topic – most welcome to join us in Gothenburg or online!

The program will cover the following sessions:

Networking opportunities, panel dialogues and interesting keynotes
Two panel dialogues will also be held at the conference; the first will be about “Distraction in the new world of many technologies” and the second discussion with leading experts is entitled “Safety assessment of human interactions with vehicles and automotive technologies in the context of driver distraction and inattention”.

We are also very proud of our two keynote speakers: Dr. Carol Flannagan and Adj Prof. Mike Lenné. Dr. Flannagans talk “Is Statistics giving you fits? How to think about data and statistical methods for driver behavior and safety in a changing transportation world”, will cover a variety of issues and potential solutions in measurement and statistical assessment of safety in the world of L3 automation, without going into any math. Measurement issues include how to gather data without requiring a server in every vehicle. Statistical assessment issues include: separating driver and vehicle contributions to safety, making fair comparisons to human-driver safety, and thinking about assessment of a vehicle whose performance and capability is changing over time. 

Adj. prof. Mike Lenné will in his talk “Capturing attention and enabling collaboration: In-cabin monitoring key in the next wave of ADAS technologies” discuss how occupant status monitoring affords a new world of human-vehicle collaboration, one that supports many safety cases and enhanced user experience. Do we now have the recipe for more success? The key ingredients needed to develop and implement this key safety system are discussed.

DDI - the primary international event on this topic            
The International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention is the primary international event on this topic, attracting delegates from more than 20 countries. It is designed to bring participants – from academia, industry and government – up-to-date on the developments and trends in the field of inattention and distraction in driving. The conference features keynote speakers, plenary and parallel sessions, poster exhibition and a panel dialogue with various experts, representing various disciplines in this line of research. Networking is also an important part of the conference and we are looking forward to host the most recent and relevant research dialogue together with experts from all around the world to move forward with our common challenge to save lives in traffic. You will also get the opportunity to join the conference virtually, if you prefer to not travel this time. The overall theme for DDI2022 is “Safety assessment of human interactions with vehicles and automotive technologies in the context of driver distraction and inattention”.

DDI2022 follows the seven highly successful DDI Conferences held previously in Gothenburg, Sweden (2009, 2011, 2013, 2018), Sydney, Australia (2015), Paris, France (2017) and online in 2021. DDI2022 is hosted and co-organised by the SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers in Sweden, the Université Gustave Eiffel, France and the University of New South Wales, Australia.
