REALLOCATE: Transforming Urban Mobility for a Sustainable Future – now included in SAFER’s knowledge portfolio
SAFER is proud to announce connection to the project, REALLOCATE, which aims to transform urban spaces into inclusive, green, safe, and future-proof environments where communities can thrive. This four-year initiative, running from May 2023 to April 2027, focuses on catalysing a positive shift in mobility practices, aligning with the climate neutrality goals of the Mission Cities 2030.
REALLOCATE brings together researchers, mobility experts, urban planners, and local citizens to collaboratively reimagine cities and redesign the way we navigate from one place to another. The project focuses on the development of integrated and innovative sustainable urban mobility solutions, encouraging European cities to exchange knowledge, experiences, and ideas.
Key features of REALLOCATE
1. Mission Cities: Ten cities, including Gothenburg, are actively participating in the project, forming five twinned pairs with a Lead City and a Twin City. These cities work closely with thematic experts to implement zero-emission, inclusive, active, and citizen-centered mobility interventions.
2. Safe & Sustainable Mobility Labs (SSML): Each city hosts SSML, an extended version of the 'Living Lab' concept. These labs serve as urban areas dedicated to piloting mobility solutions, emphasising co-designing and co-developing technologies to promote a modal shift towards more active travel. Fifteen pilots will be conducted, focusing on innovative urban design, behavioral nudging, smart technology, and data-driven solutions.
3. Knowledge transfer: The pilots provide learning and testing environments, promoting knowledge transfer and collaborative learning through mentoring, capacity building, knowledge exchange, and work shadowing.
4. Replication: The project extends its impact by engaging ten Cascade Cities in capacity building activities, providing them with replication packages and guidelines. This initiative aims to develop implementation plans for replicating at least one of the innovative solutions piloted during REALLOCATE.
By the project's conclusion, all results will be publicly available, providing a valuable resource for other cities to learn and draw inspiration from. REALLOCATE is not just a project; it's a vision for a sustainable and inclusive urban future.
