Safer and more comfortable seat belts for all – a collaborative project
SAFER partners are now launching an exciting new project: Safe and Comfortable Seat Belts for All. Through collaboration between Volvo Cars, Autoliv, and Chalmers, the project aims to generate new knowledge on how seat belts can be better adapted to a diverse range of passengers and seating postures – a crucial step toward safer and more inclusive mobility.
Building on previous research, including for example 'Passenger Safety to the Next Level', this project is part of a series of initiatives developing tools and methods to improve seat belt design and its interaction with the human body. The focus is on understanding how different factors – occupant size, sitting posture, and crash conditions – affect belt positioning and protection levels.
This knowledge will support the industry in developing adaptive restraint systems, particularly for highly automated vehicles. The project’s results will also be key for safety innovations and future regulations.
- Project duration: December 1, 2024 – February 29, 2028
