Big things are happening at Lindholmen – right in the heart of Sweden’s hub for future mobility!

Yesterday, on June 12, the Lindholmen Innovation District was officially inaugurated – with all the bells and whistles! As part of this exciting development, SAFER – the collaboration platform for traffic safety research – is now a proud part of the new district.

Lindholmen has long been a place where ideas, people and technology come together. Now, the area is shifting gears – from being a science park to becoming a full-scale innovation district. This means the place itself – with companies, research, education, housing, restaurants, culture and much more – is seen as one cohesive environment where collaboration is at the core.

What does this mean for SAFER?
We are already in the middle of the action – and now our presence becomes even more visible in Gothenburg’s most knowledge-intensive area. Around 30,000 people spend time here every day – from students and researchers to developers and urban planners – all contributing to a more sustainable future.

Our Director, Magnus Granström, took part in the grand opening, and shared his thoughts on this transformation:

“The transition to a safe and sustainable transport system requires collaboration across many different disciplines. This development makes it even easier for SAFER and our partners to address key research needs and drive knowledge-building in the right direction.”

What’s what?

• Lindholmen Innovation District is the geographical area – a vibrant city district for working, living, learning and experiencing.
• Lindholmen Science Park continues as a company and collaboration platform, driving innovation programs such as CLOSER, Drive Sweden and AI Sweden.

Oh – and yes – the building where Lindholmen Science Park is located is getting a new (or rather, original!) name: Navet – which was actually its first name. A fitting change, don’t you think?
