SAFER's Project Result Day: A Day of Insights in traffic safety science concluded

May, 24 2024

Today, we concluded the second Project Result Day at SAFER  during the spring. Our partners have shared plenty of knowledge, with many projects presented and discussed. Thank you all!

Helena Gellerman
Helena Gellerman from the Swedish Parliament together with Malin Levin and Magnus Granström from SAFER's operational team.

Here are some highlights:

  • Helena Gellerman from Swedish Parliament illustrated how SAFER’s partners' research has influenced parliamentary decisions. She emphasized that policymaking takes time, urging us to be patient and continue our research efforts.
  • Lei Chen, RISE, shared conclusions on the ICV-SAFE project, a bilateral collaboration between Sweden and China. This project explores the safety implications of intelligent connected vehicles in mixed traffic settings, covering aspects like autonomous drivability and risk assessment.
  • CLOUDIA, led by Fredrik von Corswant at Pionate; a project aiming to develop a method to identify specific events within vast datasets. An incredible tool for researchers, it promises to save a significant amount of time!
  • Self-driving bikes for testing are on the horizon, and Kajsa Nalin presented the pros and cons of using drones to illuminate cycle paths. While user acceptance has been positive, there are technical challenges to overcome.
  • MEDIATOR has developed an intelligent support system that mediates between human and automated driving (SAE Levels 0 to 4). The working prototype has been validated in various simulator and on-road use cases with different user groups. Christer Ahlström, VTI, gave us valuable info to utilize.
  • Jan Ivarsson and Sanna Eveby discussed SAFER’s efforts in helping partners implement traffic safety within their sustainability agendas and using traffic safety footprint. This is vital work, and we are learning a lot through this process.
  • We concluded the meeting by exploring how SAFER as a community supports opportunities on the European stage, such as ensuring funding for traffic research through scientifically based road maps. Partners had the chance to contribute their needs for upcoming calls. Thanks to Ingrid Skogsmo and Magnus Granström for their insights!

For SAFER partners who missed the event or want to revisit – the presentations are available here!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day a success! Let’s continue to drive forward the future of traffic safety research together. 🚗🚲🛴✨

Fredrik Von Corswant
Fredrik von Corswant, Pionate, gave a presentation about a tool to help find specific events in large amount of data.
