At the recent General Assembly, SAFER confirmed its commitment to advancing traffic safety research by approving the updated Operational Plan for 2025 under the ongoing Stage 6 framework. With 46 partners collaborating across disciplines, we are more equipped than ever to drive impactful research to help save lives in traffic.

What’s new in SAFER Stage 6?

1. Focused working groups: Our efforts are now concentrated in thematic working groups that bring partners together to collaboratively explore specific areas. Whether through joint projects, knowledge exchange, or ecosystem-building, these groups are designed to tackle targeted and common challenges effectively. 2. Strengthened networking: Networking has become a cornerstone of our operations, with regular mini-conferences offering opportunities to delve deeper into research topics, share insights from completed projects, and foster collaboration among SAFER partners and external guests. 3. Enhanced needs process & toolbox: We have refined our process for initiating research ideas or projects. Our robust toolbox offers tailored support, from funding assistance to connecting projects and people, organising workshops, or launching new research initiatives, and much more. 4. Expanding project portfolio: SAFER’s growing portfolio supports relevant traffic safety projects, utilizing our network for studies, demonstrations, or access to specific expertise. Outcomes are shared widely through dissemination activities, with publications consolidated to inspire new research directions. 5. Introduction of the SAFER Research Council: A key addition this year, the Research Council ensures alignment and cross-disciplinary collaboration by connecting research questions across fields. It also supports the working groups, providing tactical guidance to enhance their outcomes, and the collaboration platform as a whole.
