Stefan Kojchev – a new SAFER doctor!
Today, we proudly celebrate the achievement of Stefan Kojchev, a new SAFER doctor! Stefan has successfully completed his doctoral thesis, “On Optimization-Based Coordination of Automated Vehicles in Confined Sites.” Among other things, Stefan has been part of the SAFER-connected project SAFETYNET for Trucks during his doctoral studies.
Stefan has been affiliated to Chalmers University E2 and Volvo Group. The opponent was Eric Bideaux from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France. Stefan’s supervisor was Jonas Fredriksson from Chalmers University, and his co-supervisor was Robert Hult from Volvo Group.
Stefan's research focuses on optimising the coordination of automated vehicles (AVs) in confined environments such as ports and quarries. His innovative method simplifies complex optimization problems using a two-stage approach and graph theory-based decomposition. This method not only effectively coordinates AVs but also adapts to scenarios involving human-driven vehicles by predicting their behavior and adjusting AV movements accordingly.
Congratulations, Stefan, on your outstanding contribution to the field of automated vehicle coordination and for becoming a new SAFER doctor! Your work significantly advances our understanding and implementation of AVs in confined spaces, enhancing both productivity and safety.
