Sustainable transports discussed in Almedalen - SAFER's infrastructure Revere participates with expertise about automated vehicles

Jun, 25 2018

In the future, a higher proportion of the vehicles will be automated. But don’t we get more vehicles on the roads when the car can be used as an office? What do we know about the best fuel for different needs? How can a new, different transport system look like? What needs to be done, and by whom? Chalmers organizes a panel debate on the highly interesting topic during the political week in Almedalen.

Sweden has the chance to take the lead in the transition to a safer and sustainable transport system. In order to carry out a powerful and goal-oriented conversion, a joint effort is required. But consensus about the goals is still missing. Everyone is also not aware of the possibilities and opportunities that research and the industry can offer.

Leading transport scientists gives a picture of the situation and presents visions of the future transport system focusing on renewable fuels, shared transports and autonomous vehicles. Ideas and challenges are discussed by a panel of experts from politics, academia, industry and the public sector. Is Sweden ready to change the transport system so that the fossil emissions from traffic disappear until 2030? Is it possible to reach Swedish consensus?

Fredrik Von Corswant, Director of SAFER Infrastructure Revere comments on the dialogue:
"Automated transport can contribute to increased quality of life and make Sweden an even better country to live in. Mobility will also be much more efficient with automation. We want, with our seminar, make our politicians understand what enormous social benefits this technology can actually give and show concrete examples where politics can make a difference. For example, more co-ordinated research and facilitation of testing could make a big difference and thus speed up development so society can begin to benefit from new technology".
