Welcome to a new year with SAFER!

A new year has recently begun and I am looking forward with delight and expectation at what will happen – we have a lot of exciting things going on within the research centre.
The content of SAFER research and activities have been characterized by the rapid development of autonomous driving and a connected, automated transport system and increased emphasis on walking and cycling in the development of sustainable urban environments. The coming year will be characterized by continued research to reach our common goal to save lives and reduce traffic injuries, all according to SAFER’s vision, Vision Zero and UN’s global sustainability targets.

With us into 2018 we have over 50 ongoing high-quality projects in our portfolio, some of them pioneering. We have several major applications in progress and we aim for more external funding for our important research. The focus during 2018 will also be on designing SAFER's next phase, stage 5, starting in April 2019.

To create liveable, attractive cities and a connected, automated, sustainable transport systems we need to integrate the aspects of traffic safety in their design and implementation. To be successful more knowledge, research and more collaboration with relevant stakeholders and disciplines is required. The network and competence under the umbrella of SAFER form a unique combination in this field. The interdisciplinary approach at SAFER is proven to be a successful way of achieving sustainable solutions. I am confident that SAFER, with the people and partners involved, is able to continue to deliver strong contributions to find solutions to develop a safe, sustainable mobility system and to continuing to build a world-class vehicle and traffic safety research centre.
I hope to see many of you come to the SAFER environment to work, listen to seminars or just meet in all simplicity.

Kind regards,

Magnus Granström
