We hope that you have had a really wonderful holiday and are ready for a new year with favorable collaboration and research so that together we can create a safe and sustainable traffic environment of the future, for all. We are looking forward to this! We would like to share some of the most important priority areas for SAFER in 2021:

• Continue to boost project creation and establishing world class competitive portfolios – focus on cross functional projects and engagement of new partners as well as more demonstrations/applied projects.
• Horizon Europe – creating strong consortia with SAFER partners.
• Boost the pre-studies and support a second step.
• Workshops for researchers to start forming multidisciplinary projects.
• How AI can be used as a tool in traffic safety research – the next steps.
• Research in the Corona situation: Support and develop the reference groups to secure engagement in the situation when we cannot meet.
• Connected research resources: utilise the resources we have within the SAFER network even more.
• Utilize and strengthen the SAFER Ecosystem even more as a source of funding, knowledge and inspiration – associate even more relevant projects.
• Take advantage of SAFER’s strengths to both contribute to UN’s global sustainable development goals and to be inspired and guided in our research to meet our common challenges. 
• Continue to utilize online-activities to share knowledge, create engagement among partners and going more international.
• Create engagement in an ever-changing environment and increase knowledge about SAFER / engagement outside the already initiated SAFER research community – attracting new people to the SAFER community. Support people’s understanding in how to work on a collaboration platform / utilize in practice.
• Continue to develop the competence networks.
• Continue to work for a strong presence in relevant working groups / contexts in EU and other relevant international areas to influence e.g. forthcoming funding and project opportunities.
• Start planning for a SAFER Stage VI incl possible financial models.
