Welcome back to SAFER!
We hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing summer vacation! As we transition into autumn, we enthusiastically anticipate a season full of collaboration and research. This autumn promises numerous opportunities for partnership, learning, and the exchange of new ideas and connections.
As we move into the second half of SAFER stage 6, we are thrilled to report that our project portfolio continues to expand. We have nearly 20 new projects that offer us collective learning experiences. You can explore all our projects here.
We are very proud of our dedicated working groups! Over the spring, no fewer than nine groups have dug into various common questions, engaging stakeholder groups and developing plans for joint research. Several groups have even already formed consortia and secured funding. Thank you all for your commitment to making our new working methods successful. This autumn, we plan to launch more collaborative teams. If you see topics of interest, please do not hesitate to reach out, and we will strive to initiate additional groups. You can always learn more about the groups' work on our collaborative digital platform, SAFER Inside.
We are excited to highlight our SAFER Research Days, one of our new meeting concepts in phase six. These days are themed and dive deep into different subjects, starting from our completed projects. Mark your calendars for September 18, November 27, and December 18. Great opportunities for collaboration and knowledge building await!
Our own funding program, the SAFER Idea Exploration Program continues, with the next call opening in September. The deadline for submitting your idea to explore within the platform is October 23, see details here.
We are also thrilled about our 9th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention, which will take place in Michigan from October 22-24. This important conference brings together world-leading researchers and practitioners to save lives on the roads by combating distraction. Explore the program and more details about the event here.
Lastly, we are delighted to welcome you back to our SAFER Thursday lunch seminars! These seminars are a golden opportunity for discussions on critical topics, providing deep knowledge and promoting valuable relationships. We kick off on August 29 with a session on our closely connected research infrastructure, Revere - The vehicle lab's new strategy and opportunities for SAFER-connected researchers. You can see the complete schedule here.
We look forward to an inspiring autumn with all of you. Welcome to collaboration with your traffic safety research peers at SAFER!
Best regards,
SAFER’s operational team
