Feb, 14 2022

We are pleased to announce that we have two new highly competent leaders for our research area Systems for accident prevention and automated driving; Katrin Sjöberg and Carina Björnsson.

Katrin’s current employment is as technical adviser in connectivity at Volvo Autonomous Solutions. In this position, she leads and advise research, technology and product development projects in the area of connected and automated vehicles. She is initiating and participating in research projects small as well as large ones, co-supervising and mentoring PhD students, and publishing research articles. Also, Katrin is an expert on European legislation such as the ITS directive, radio equipment directive and radio frequencies. Her engagement in the standards development organization ETSI, in which she is a rapporteur for several essential standards for connected and automated driving, will also be of great value for the SAFER community. Karin has a PhD in Signals and Systems with the thesis “Medium Access Control for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks” from Chalmers University of Technology in 2013.

Katrin comments on her new role:

“I am humbled and honored for this appointment to SAFER research area director. Thanks for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to lead the work on the SAFER arena and to further strengthen collaboration between stakeholders to reach the ‘zero vision’“.

Carina is currently a Technical expert in driver assistance and active safety test methods at Volvo Cars and she have been working with product development and active safety verification since the first active safety systems were introduced in customer cars in 2007. She is member of the steering group for Revere, a closely connected research infrastructure to SAFER, as well as being an expert member in several ISO-groups, e.g. to design standards for active safety test equipment and active safety test methods.  Carina will add great value to the research and collaborative activities at SAFER with her very deep knowledge about ADAS systems and verification methods for these systems.

“Within this role my aim is to support the creation of multidisciplinary research and cross-talk between industry, academia and industries as well as contribute with my own competence and channel the knowledge in this field within Volvo Cars”, Carina says.
Katrin will take on the role as Research area director and will also be a member of SAFER's management team and Scientific committee. Carina will be part of SAFER Core in the role of Co-director.

Their main tasks are to pro-active lead and develop the project portfolio, lead the group and contribute to SAFER’s strategic agenda. Also, the Research area directors leads the road map development and stimulate cooperation as well as knowledge sharing among the SAFER partners active in the research areas through multidisciplinary project.

We welcome Katrin and Carina to their roles at SAFER and thank Fredrik Sandblom and Arne Nåbo for their engagement and contribution in their previous roles as leader for SAFER’s accident prevention research!
