Who’s watching? Let’s keep it Safe – The GUARD project

Feb, 26 2025

Ever wondered how much data our smart technologies collect? And how safe it is? With data being the new “gold” for future mobility and AI, keeping it private and secure has never been more important. That is where the new partner project at SAFER; GUARD - GUarding Anonymization pRoceDures - steps in!

Building on the foundation of the MIDAS project, GUARD takes anonymization a step further by exploring new methods to protect personal data while maintaining its usability.

Anonymizing data like faces in images without losing critical details (like eye gaze or expressions) that are crucial for developing smarter and safer systems. Traditional methods, like blurring, often ruin the data’s usefulness. GUARD takes a smarter route by exploring generative AI to de-identify faces while keeping the data valuable.

But it doesn’t stop there. GUARD also tackles vulnerabilities in these methods, ensuring the anonymization stays strong and can’t be hacked to reveal identities.

What’s in it for traffic safety?
By protecting personal information, GUARD helps researchers and developers collect more data responsibly. This means better tools and insights for safer roads and smarter mobility solutions.
