Initiative Chalmers:

Technology and Housing for an Aging Society/

Teknik och byggande för en åldrande befolkning

Aim

Most industrialized countries are facing a huge increase of elderly in the population. As a result we will meet large challenges for every part of the society, including both troubles and new possibilities. Research and development will be needed in many different sectors. New products as well as new services must be developed and we have to start thinking in new ways.

The aim of this seminar is to create connections and collaborations between researchers, municipalities and business for the possibilities to handle constrains of societies in creating good living conditions for elderly persons.

We aim to show that Chalmers University of Technology can contribute in many parts of the area of care and elderly, not the least when we collaborate with other actors in business and society. This seminar will be an opportunity to show and discuss what already goes on, and to create meetings with potentials for new research and collaborations.

We will also offer an opportunity all persons at Chalmers – researchers, teachers and students - to open and make clear this large field for research, development and education.

The purpose is to give a diversified picture – by facts of demography and trends, examples of research and innovations, also from private sector – to enhance new areas of research. Some of the topics in the seminar are health/care and nutrition, Traffic and transports, housing and building and IT & communication.

The first day the Seminar is open to all interested persons and given in Swedish

The second day  – focus on research and business - given in English

For this day of the Seminar you need a registration.

It will be oriented towards research and development and towards contacts and collaboration with companies, public sector and other universities. The aim is to establish contacts between these actors but also between researchers trans-disciplinary.

We will try to catch up ideas and thoughts that have occurred during the Seminar. We start the further efforts to find and develop new tasks in the area of needs for elderly. This huge area offers lots of possibilities for collaboration between public sector, companies, Göteborg University and Chalmers.
