A new generation of Night Vision Systems with Pedestrian Detection and Warning
A new generation of Night Vision systems with included Pedestrian Detection and Warning functionality is being introduced with the new BMW 7 series.
Road accidents involving pedestrians are far more frequent at night than during the day. Analysis has shown that fatality is around four times higher at night than during daylight hours, after all the contributing factors are taken into account. The accident situation, technology, and a future outlook will be presented.
Lecturer:
Jan-Erik Källhammer received his M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Luleå Technical University, Luleå, Sweden and his M.Sc. in electrical engineering from Duke University, Durham, NC. He is currently Head of Active Safety at Autoliv Research.
Jan-Erik Källhammer was responsible for the pre-development of the uncooled infrared driver’s Night Vision system that is now on the market as an option in BMW 5, 6 and 7-series vehicles. Current work includes assessments of driver acceptance of accident warning systems in general and Night Vision systems in particular.
