Kazuya Takeda: “Behavior Signal Processing applied to improve the driving safety“
Prof Kazuya Takeda, Graduate school of information science, Nagoya University, Japan, will give a talk about the experimental evaluation of the web-based browsing system for driving behavior signals applied to the driver evaluation and education.
In that system, driver models under various traffic contexts are used to detect the potentially dangerous situations that the driver were not aware. By reviewing the video footage of his/her own driving together with a comments on such detected dangers, drivers can improve the safety of their driving manner. 30 drivers were involved to evaluate the system effectiveness. In the experiment, browsing driving signals reduced the number of detected dangerous situations by half. In the talk, he will describes the driver models, the signal browsing environment and experimental set up and results.
Prof Takeda has a very interesting background and their work on human behaviour signals processing is closely related to SAFER's FOT activities.

Joseph Kanianthra: “Connected Vehicles – Its Promises and Possibilities”
Dr. Kanianthra retired from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in August 2008 after 32 years of Service. As a Senior Executive, he was the Senior Technical Advisor and an Associate Administrator for the Office of Vehicle Safety Research. He directed all of vehicle safety research related to crashworthiness, crash avoidance, driver-vehicle performance, tire research, driver distraction research and intelligent technologies research programs in the agency for over twenty years. He is now the President of Active Safety Engineering LLC, a company set up specifically for providing automobile safety consulting services to the industry and safety community.
Prof Takeda and Dr. Kanianthra are visiting SAFER during February 22-24th. They are together with Dr Anne Guillaume the International Scientific Advisory Board of SAFER.
