Speaker: Tim Gordon, Jubilee Visiting Professor at Chalmers. Dr. Gordon is Research Professor and Head of UMTRI's Engineering Research Division, USA, and he will be working at SAFER during May 2009.
Background
Dr. Tim Gordon is a research professor and head of UMTRI's Engineering Research Division. He holds a joint appointment in the University of Michigan College of Engineering as a professor of mechanical engineering. His research interests are centered in the field of vehicle dynamics and control relating to automotive design and development, modeling of driver-vehicle interactions, active chassis system control and integration, and tracking and estimation of vehicles using machine vision.
His current work is directed toward developing models to support the development of crash risk metrics that can be extracted from detailed traffic flow measurements.
Prior to joining UMTRI in 2003, Dr. Gordon was the Ford professor of automotive engineering in the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University in England. There he was department chair and played a leadership role in the automotive activities within the university, including industrial and government links.
Dr. Gordon obtained both bachelor and doctorate degrees in applied mathematics at the University of Cambridge. His doctoral dissertation was in the area of relativistic wave propagation in multi-dimensional geometries.
