Welcome to a SAFER seminar where Prof Tim Gordon, University of Michigan, will present the Site Observer developed within the SHRP2 Safety Program in the US.

Abstract:
The Site Observer was developed as part of the US SHRP 2 (Strategic Highway Research Program) Safety program. In this talk the motivation and capabilities of the system are described. While use of video tracking is common, almost ubiquitous in traffic monitoring, the Site Observer has a number of unique features, the most important of which being that it is scalable and provides a fully searchable database for measuring both exposure and conflict/crashes.

The system currently exists as a prototype, but it is seen to have immense scope for development as a working tool for safety research.
