Slime, Sticks & Stones for Future Fuels - om framtida alternativa bränslen
Abstract
Fuels based on renewable sources will be increasingly part to our transportation diet. Bioethanol is the underwater tip of this iceburg. However, the feedstocks we will eventually use and process by which they are efficiently transformed into fuels are yet to be developed. Algae (slime) and wood (sticks) are prime candidates by which solar radiation transforms carbon dioxide into oxygen-rich polymeric hydrocarbons.
Industrial experience teaches that heterogeneous catalysts (stones) will provide the most viable chemical pathways to create these future fuels. This lecture will discuss the challenges for future scientists and engineers to make this a reality. The solutions will involve every scientific and engineering discipline working in concert.
