Welcome to a SAFER Thursday seminar on February 28!

Week 9’s seminar is organized by the SAFER research area “Road User Behaviour” and hosted by Tania Dukic Willstrand, Research area director.

“Safety Through automation?” How to ensure that automated and connected driving contribute to a safer transportation system.
Speaker: Anders Lindström, Research Director for the Driver and Vehicle group at VTI
Anders Lindström, Research Director for the Driver and Vehicle group at VTI, will present the position paper “Safety Through automation? How to ensure that automated and connected driving contribute to a safer transportation system”. This document was produced in 2018 by a working group led by Anders within FERSI, Forum of European Road Safety Research Institutes. The report groups several dozen pressing issues remaining to be solved into four major categories: 1) areas where traffic safety may be improved by these new technologies, 2) traffic safety issues that cannot be solved and groups which will not benefit from these technologies, 3) traffic safety issues that these technologies may in fact cause, and, 4) how testing and certification may need to change accordingly.

Nudging bicyclists
Speaker: Pontus Wallgren, senior lecturer at the Division Design and Human Factors, Chalmers
Pontus Wallgren, senior lecturer at the Division Design and Human Factors, Chalmers will present a work done within MeBeSafe. MeBeSafe is EU-financed  project with the aim of increasing traffic safety by using nudging. The project is aimed at all categories of road users,  but the focus for this presentation is on nudging bicyclists to adapt a safer behaviour. So far, a number of quasi-experimental studies of varying size have been done in order to find what nudges (both visual and haptic) have a potential to work. The aim is to implement and test a smaller number of nudges in Gothenburg and in the Netherlands during autumn.

Personal invitations have been sent to SAFER Partners.

Most welcome!
